Donington Historic May 3-5th 2019
We chose to attend on the Sunday only at Donington this year.
We arrived, had our tickets checked and parked up in a very short time, a vast improvement on last year. We displayed our car with The Independent Porsche Enthusiasts Club to avoid the usual dust Porsche Club GB get, being near the main through-road. This didn’t quite work out. The road that caused the dust problem last year wasn't used and the alternative way in was next to the track, and just above where we parked. The dust therefore covered everything below and we had to travel through a route filled with spectators and pedestrians who didn’t expect to encounter traffic on the footpath, which seems an odd way of organising things.

We parked in the usual TIPEC display area, met up with several very chatty members, and had a welcome bacon roll and a coffee.
We then visited PCGB for another chat and look around the biggest club display at the show.
Attendance was exceptionally low compared to last year. Several club displays had no cars at all, or only a few cars on display, and it all looked bare and deserted on the infield. I doubt the food stalls covered their costs.

The paddock area was quite busy, and walking around the classic race cars and chatting with owners, helpers and drivers is what makes this event worth attending. Personally, I find the races a little boring due to their length. After the first few laps, after the different spec cars have spread out, there is little change or actual racing.
I was a little disappointed to find so many of the competitors had packed up, although I can’t blame them for wanting to go after their race is over, it does mean your full price ticket on a Sunday only gets full viewing up to lunchtime.
The quality of the cars taking part in the races is second to none and the teams are enthusiastic and willing to share their love of cars.
