Goodwood Revival
Overview
This is a race weekend with a difference. Everyone joins in and makes the atmosphere. The event is themed, dated between the late 1940s and late 1960, a year is chosen and becomes the theme for the show. People dress up in period costume and the shops and displays are period dated to match.
All racing involves the best cars from the period and each race is quite short so entertaining for the non-motorsport attendees.
Detailed report
The event is over three days in September and is well attended by 150,000 people. Once again, the settings, detail and organisation gives the event more than just motorsport focus and that in turn increases female attendance up to 38% in 2017.
The event is not cheap and 65% of people attending earn over £65,000 per annum (Info available on the official Goodwood website) but the quality of everything, from the food available to having your hair cut at a fully working 1950s salon, makes it a value for money weekend.

The event, like all Goodwood events, is very well organised and staffed mainly by volunteers interested in motorsport. Everyone is friendly, and because everyone gets into the spirit of the event with costume and environment, everyone is chatty and talking with people from all over the country is probably made easier because of the fancy-dress.
The racing is easy to see and Grandstand tickets are well worth the cost. Transport around the site is by tractor-trailer and although slow, provides the relaxed feel synonymous with the whole event.
Camping allows greater freedom on arrival and departure times due to the volume of traffic, but is costly. Parking is, however, just over the road from the track and the event does not have the disadvantages of distance there is at the Festival Of Speed.
Make sure you have a paddock pass as this is well worth visiting just to get close to the cars. Racing is good and even though some of the cars are worth millions, they don’t think of that when on the track - or quite often ‘off the track’.
Once you have experienced this event, you will want to go back. I have already got my suit for this year.
You could manage this event in one day but if you can, avoid regret by doing the three.
For
The detail of the period setting and races and the way everyone joins in makes this event special.
Great racing and a great crowd.
Against
Apart from the issues of getting in and out of the site (unless you camp) and the cost, there is very little to disappoint.
