Thoresby Classic Car & Motorcycle Show
August Bank Holiday Monday 2019
We like doing this show for two reasons, it’s quite local and the site is huge and well organised.
This year was not quite the fun start we normally enjoy, with very slow progress for the last 7 miles and then almost no progress onto the site. I was not able to see why we stopped but Classic cars and hot weather do not mix and cars were overheating and being pushed all around us. The gate is normally well organised and quick but several in front of us were paying and therefore advance ticket holders were delayed. The ticket area needs splitting up to aid progress.
Note if you are visiting in a non show car then parking is much quicker although pedestrians are expected to cross the flow of cars coming into the event.

Once by the ticket entrance we progressed to site without any further delay and the designated lettered display areas worked fantastic.
The site and event is big and well over 600 cars turned out to show themselves off.
The cars range from old, but everyday cars, to exotic cars like Lamborghini. We parked our Porsche 911SC next to a Datsun Cherry 100Y and it was that old and not so shinny car that everyone was looking at and having their photos taken with. The cars on display jog a lot of memories.

A lot of the cars on display are cars people either owned or would have liked to have owned when they were younger. Listening to some of the owners, many had bought a car because it was what they always wanted when younger, but didn’t have the chance to buy at the time.
The food stalls are plentiful and looked very busy, but not as busy as the ice cream vans. Did I mention it was the hottest Bank holiday Monday ever. These Thoresby hot events are turning out to be glorious every year.
The stalls are spread across two sides of the field and provide quite a nice range of auto jumble and gifts.

The show puts on its own ‘Pride of Ownership’ event which runs all day and anyone can enter. The commentator is good at providing some great car stories and info with a little background on the cars and owners. It’s fun and if you have the chance to put your car forward, then you should.
The bikes were all grouped together and although well attended, they never quite feel like part of the show. They really need organising and presenting better.
On the top field we had a few clubs, American cars and millions of Mini on display for their 60th anniversary. Other large groups like the Capri Owners, Ford RS, and Modified put on a good display, although the RS folk didn’t seem stick around for long.
Will we be going again? Definitely, but much earlier to try and avoid the queues. This can be a very relaxing event in a brilliant setting.
