Rennsport Open Evening
Report by Trev
It was open evening at Rennsport Ltd at Moreton-in-Marsh in the Cotswolds on Wednesday 27th June and we took a look around the showroom and workshop.
We have been 4 times now, and Rennsport are restoring our own Classic 1978 Porsche 911SC.
We have been 4 times now, and Rennsport are restoring our own Classic 1978 Porsche 911SC.
They date back to the late 70s and come from a car design background, which you see in the detail what goes into their cars.
They normally ‘Retro’ a Porsche 911SC and make it into a classic-looking 911, but with the reliability and handling of a more modern model.

The car is stripped and the body restored like any other restoration, but the modern bumpers and trim are replaced with period early 70's trim. Then everything is either replaced with quality parts that are made to last, like stainless steel exhausts, or the parts that are still good (but looking tired) are plated or painted, so everything looks new when the customer gets their car back.
The cars then have a total restoration and are returned to the customer’s specification as a new Rennsport 911S.
The workshop is a dream place for most garage mechanics to work, with a spotless, tidy work-areas and plenty of room. Everyone is enthusiastic about their work, whether playing in oil in the engine and gearbox rebuild bay, or fitting parts on the shop floor.
They have a great business in a great location, and Paul Cockle, the owner, and the rest of the staff is the reason we chose them to restore our car. They are an experienced restoration shop and their open approach allows you to visit and check out your car whenever convenient.
Next time you see a Rennsport car take the time to have a look what makes them so special.

A trip down to Moreton-in-Marsh, set in the Cotswolds on 27th June was a rare treat for me. Not used to being out and about on a ‘school night’, we set off early enough to miss the rush-hour traffic.
With the intent of getting to Rennsport for their open evening, starting at 6pm, we got there more than an hour early and took off to look at a few standing stones to pass the time.
When we arrived at Rennsport, the usual warm greeting was forthcoming and we were made welcome with snacks and drinks laid-on.

Rennsport are restoring our Porsche 911 SC and we had a comprehensive chat about the last few little bits we’ll need to get it back to its former glory. If I’m honest, I think this renovation will surpass the former glory as we knew it. The car was 10 years old when we purchased it and I firmly believe it will be better than when we took possession of it by the time Rennsport have finished.
After going over the car with a fine-tooth comb, we were invited to wander the showroom, upstairs and downstairs, and to take a look at the stunning array of vehicles displayed on the forecourt.
It’s always a pleasure to visit Rennsport, even though it’s a long way off our beaten path, it’s always worth the trip.
