Gringley-on-the-Hill open garden and Classic Car Show
9th June 2019
This event only happens every two years, and this is our second visit. The Car Show is currently free to enter a car, with access to the gardens by wrist band at a cost of £5, and the bus is £1 for all day travel around the village. This whole event is put on to raise funds for local charities, and is very well supported.
It has the wonderful English ‘village green’ type setting, which is friendly and well organised. You are welcomed in, and thanked for attending as you leave.
Food is available, and a bar is set up, although I did hear it had run out of beer very early in the afternoon. I am not sure if that was planned, to get the drinkers down to the local pub for the entertainment, but its something that I am sure will be addressed for next time. The food is reasonably priced, with bacon rolls (cobs) priced at £2.50 and Coffee/Tea at £1. Outside caterers provided alternative food with Pizza, cocktails and ice cream.

The cars
They are generally what we class as ‘real classics’, from 1911 through to the 80s. The modern cars that attend are generally the interesting cars like the new Alpine and a few more modern Porsche and Aston Martin.
Also on show are, bikes, military and tractors.

We attended in the Porsche 911SC and parked with the Porsche Club GB R4 region who had a small gazebo for protection from both sun and showers. Generally, the weather was kind, and this encouraged a full field of cars. There was almost twice as many as 2017.
The show runs from 12 noon till 5pm and is very well attended by the visitors. Everyone is friendly and it is a show were people sit around in deck chairs, alongside their car. It takes a long time to get around due to everyone being enthusiastic about their cars and just generally friendly. We love to chat and talk about... well anything, (but especially cars) and find out just what time some of the enthusiasts put into re-building, restoring and maintaining their pride and joys.
